On September 11, 2001, Hanna Born and her younger sister Heather were in the Pentagon daycare when the building was attacked. They were rescued and reunited with their family—an outcome thousands of others never received. Ever since, each have felt a deep obligation to honor the 2,977 lives and families who were not as fortunate. Now serving as a U.S. Air Force helicopter pilot, Hanna has launched Run to Remember 2977—a year-long journey to run 2,977 miles, one for each life lost on 9/11. Beginning on September 11, 2025, and leading into the 25th anniversary, each mile will carry a name, a story, and a legacy forward so they are never forgotten. Guided by the belief that “this mile is not mine alone,” Hanna invites communities everywhere to join in remembrance by dedicating a mile, sharing a story, or supporting the cause.

RunToRemember2977 is a living tribute to the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001. Each mile run carries the memory of a name and a story, reminding us of the heroes, families, and communities forever changed. By joining the movement, sharing your miles, or giving in support, you help keep their legacies alive while strengthening the 9/11 Legacy Foundation’s mission of remembrance and resilience.

Why Your Support Matters:

  • 100 million Americans are too young to remember 9/11 (that’s roughly one-third of the current population!)
  • Only 16 states require 9/11 to be taught about at the high school level
  • The rise in sympathy for Osama bin Laden in Americans under 30 – a recent poll indicates that nearly 20% of Americans ages 18-29 holds a positive view of bin Laden
  • Stories of heroism and resiliency born out of 9/11 are often overlooked or go untold
