“I could have been lost on that day very easily.”
On 9/11, a chance moment changed John’s fate. His F.D.N.Y. firehouse lost heroes on 9/11. It took him almost fifteen years to feel comfortable returning to the site, but he was moved by his experience.
For John Larocchia, the journey from fighting fires to making people laugh has been more than a career shift—it has been a mission. A retired FDNY firefighter, Larocchia has dedicated his post-service life to supporting first responders through the power of comedy. As the founder of the Laughter Saves Lives Foundation, he has transformed his passion for stand-up into a force for good, using humor to uplift, heal, and support those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.
From the Firehouse to the Stage
Larocchia served with New York’s Bravest, facing the dangers and challenges that come with being a firefighter in one of the busiest departments in the world. But it was the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that became a defining moment in his life. That day, 343 FDNY firefighters lost their lives, including many of Larocchia’s close friends and colleagues. Determined to keep their memories alive and support those still serving, he founded the Laughter Saves Lives Foundation, combining his two great passions: comedy and service.
A seasoned stand-up comedian with over 20 years of experience, Larocchia knew the power of laughter in healing and bringing people together. Through Laughter Saves Lives, he produces high-quality comedy shows, each dedicated to the memory of a first responder lost on 9/11. These performances serve a dual purpose: they provide audiences with much-needed joy and raise funds to help first responders facing unexpected financial hardships due to illness, injury, or loss.
Laughter Saves Lives: A Mission with Meaning
The Laughter Saves Lives Foundation goes beyond entertainment. Proceeds from the foundation’s shows directly support first responders and their families who find themselves in financial distress. Whether due to illness, injury, or unforeseen tragedies, first responders often need assistance, and Larocchia’s foundation ensures they are not forgotten.
Each event is a tribute, ensuring that those who made the ultimate sacrifice are honored and remembered. The laughter shared on stage is not just about humor—it’s about resilience, community, and keeping the spirit of fallen heroes alive.
A Platform for Humor and Support
In addition to live performances, Larocchia co-hosts “Laughter Saves Lives…LIVE!”, a weekly online show alongside fellow comedian Rich Walker. Airing every Wednesday at 8:00 PM EST on platforms like YouTube Live and Facebook Live, the show brings together first responders, comedians, and special guests, blending humor with heartfelt discussions. The program serves as both a stress reliever and a support system, reinforcing the idea that laughter truly has the power to save lives.
Through this platform, Larocchia continues to raise awareness, connect with audiences, and provide comfort to those who need it most.
More Than a Comedian—A Champion for First Responders
What sets John Larocchia apart is his unwavering dedication to his fellow first responders. He understands firsthand the sacrifices they make, the challenges they face, and the burdens they carry long after their shifts end. His foundation is a lifeline, offering financial relief, emotional support, and a sense of community.
In a world where first responders often witness the worst of humanity, Laughter Saves Lives reminds them that there is still joy, kindness, and support to be found.

Laughter Saves Lives is more than just a foundation—it’s a movement. Whether by attending a comedy show, watching the weekly live broadcast, or simply spreading the message, everyone can play a role in supporting first responders.
