SUMMARY:The CT United Ride
DESCRIPTION:The CT United Ride is a motorcycle ride honoring those who lost their lives\, those who gave their lives\, and those who continue to put their lives on the line each day as a result of the tragedies occurring on 9/11. The CT United Ride is sponsored by the CT State Fire Fighters – the UPFFA of CT. This event is the largest 9/11 tribute in the State of Connecticut. \nAfter the tragic events of 9/11/01\, Frederick Garrity Jr and the Fairfield County Labor Council organized a motorcycle ride fundraiser for the initial victims of 9/11\, which was held on September 30\, 2001. This event attracted 500 riders. With the success and support of the first fundraising event\, it was decided to continue “The CT United Ride” as a tribute event each year honoring the memories and continuing support of all affected. \nThe monies raised the first year through the Labor Council went to three 9/11 victim relief funds in NYC; The Police Officers fund\, The Fire Fighters fund\, and The United Way’s fund. As The CT United Ride remains a tribute to 9/11 (not a fundraiser); all monies that are raised from the second year on\, go to the family emergency relief funds for CT Police Officers\, CT Fire Fighters and two local United Ways. \nThe Fairfield County Labor Council sponsored The CT United Ride for the first three years; the UPFFA of CT has been the sponsor for the last three years\, with 2007 being the third year. As the main force behind the ride\, Frederick Garrity\, Jr. has remained the director of “The CT United Ride” since its inception. \nThe ride travels with full police escort through 11 cities and towns\, Norwalk\, Westport\, Wilton\, Georgetown\, Redding\, Bethel\, Newtown\, Monroe\, Trumbull\, Fairfield\, and ending in Bridgeport. In each of the towns\, the local Fire Stations bring out their Ladder Trucks and hang the American Flag from their extended Ladders over the roadway traveled by the riders; ending with a double Ladder Truck Arch holding a single American Flag\, formed with Bridgeport and Fairfield Fire Departments at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. \n

Each year\, Team RWB hosts a nationwide 9/11 Stair Climb to honor the nearly 3\,000 lives lost during the September 11\, 2001 terrorist attacks and to commemorate the courage of the first responders who raced into the towers. Participants climb 2\,200 stairs—symbolizing the 110 stories of the World Trade Center—often while wearing weighted rucks to replicate the gear firefighters carried that day. \nThese climbs take place at stadiums\, office buildings\, and other tall structures across the country\, and can also be completed virtually through the Team RWB app. The stair climbs are part of Team RWB’s Monthly Mission series\, encouraging members to engage in meaningful\, physical challenges throughout the year. The 9/11 Stair Climb typically runs during a one-week window in September and is supported by local chapters and community leaders. The event serves not only as a workout but as a powerful act of remembrance\, unity\, and patriotism.

Hosted in over 90 communities across the country\, the event invites participants to run\, walk\, or ruck in unity and remembrance. Races are held in-person in cities\, while a virtual option allows participants from anywhere in the world to take part between September 5 and October 4. The event also features a GORUCK division for those who want to ruck—walk with a weighted backpack—in a show of strength and endurance. \nRegistration includes official race gear and eligibility for medals based on participation and placement. Proceeds from the event benefit the Travis Manion Foundation’s programs\, which focus on empowering veterans and families of fallen heroes through leadership development\, service projects\, and youth mentorship initiatives. The 9/11 Heroes Run continues to grow each year as a way to ensure that the legacy of courage\, sacrifice\, and service lives on in communities across the nation.

SUMMARY:Discovery Park of America Memorial Stair Climb (Union City\, TN)
DESCRIPTION:Union City firefighters will once again partner with Discovery Park of America to host the annual Sept. 11 Memorial Stair Climb on Sept. 5\, 2026. \nParticipation in the climb is open to any active or former member of the fire service\, police\, military\, EMS or other first responder agency. Members of the public are also welcome to climb in honor of a loved one who is or was a member of one of these agencies. Climbers must be 18 or older. The cost to climb is $40. \nThe climb begins with a memorial ceremony and presentation as a way to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11\, 2001. Climbers will be given an ID badge with a photo of a first responder who lost their life on 9/11. As they climb the steps\, the stairwell will be filled with posters and words of encouragement from local students. \nImmediate family members of the climbers will receive VIP entrance to Discovery Park on the day of the climb. After the climb is over\, lunch will be provided for the climbers courtesy of Discovery Park of America .

DESCRIPTION:The Arlington Police\, Fire\, Sheriff and ECC 9/11 Memorial Race was born from an idea to start a road race after two Arlington County Police Officers had returned from a similar road race in Buffalo\, New York. The first Arlington 9/11 Race was held on September 7\, 2002\, with 2600 runners\, and raised approximately $40\,000. \nSince its inception\, the Arlington Police\, Fire\, Sheriff and ECC 9/11 Memorial Race has had over 40\,000 runners cross its finish line and has raised over $1\,000\,000 for 9/11-related charities. Our goal for the 2024 race is to take us over ONE MILLION DOLLARS. \nWe are members of Arlington County Public Safety\, that volunteer our time to manage this race. We invite you to join with us in making this meaningful event a success as we come together to remember and honor the lives of four local heroes. There will be four start times beginning at 8:46 AM (American Flight 11 North Tower)\, 9:03 AM (United Flight 175 South Tower)\, 9:37 AM (American Flight 77 Pentagon)\, and 9:58 AM (South Tower Collapse). Please select your desired start time when registering. Each starting time will be limited to 250 walkers. \n \nThis community event brings people together in fellowship and remembrance while raising critical funds for the following memorial scholarship funds: \nHonor Elizabeth “Lizz” Wainio Memorial Scholarship Fund\, Towson University\, Class of 1995. Lizz was a passenger on United Flight 93 and is remembered among the 40 heroes whose courageous actions prevented the plane from reaching its intended target in Washington\, D.C. Lizz was just 27 years old. \nWardell Turner Memorial Scholarship Fund\, Towson University\, Class of 1985. Wardell made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the Maryland National Guard during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan on November 24th\, 2014\, at age 48. \nRobert “Bob” Marchanti Memorial Scholarship Fund\, Towson University\, Class of 1985. Bob also gave his life in service to our country during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan as a member of the Maryland National Guard on February 25\, 2012\, at age 48. \nDaniel “Dan” McNeal Memorial Scholarship Fund\, Loyola Blakefield\, Class of 1990. Dan was working in his Sandler O’Neill office on the 104th floor of the South Tower of the World Trade Center when it was struck on September 11th. Dan was just 29 years old. \nYour support will directly impact these scholarships\, helping to carry forward the legacies of these remarkable individuals.

DESCRIPTION:The 9.11 Promise Run route guarantees that you will see sites you typically do not have the opportunity to experience… it’s like a step back in time running through our country’s history and roots. \nYour journey will take you by monuments in Washington D.C.\, the Inner Harbor in Baltimore\, down Broad Street to City Hall in Philadelphia\, and a beautiful run along the Hudson River before we end our journey at the 9/11 Memorial in New York. You will experience the blue-collar neighborhoods that built the North East\, ports and harbors that deliver cargo essential to our livelihood\, and the refineries around Philadelphia where you can channel the spirit of ‘Rocky’! Let’s not forget the farmlands and college towns like the University of Maryland\, Johns Hopkins\, Princeton\, and Rutgers. \nThere are a lot of flat stretches and also a good amount of rolling hills. Most of the route entails a sidewalk or a large shoulder. There are a few patches along the route where the road narrows and the running space is limited – in these areas\, we highly encourage you to have someone comfortable running that particular stretch or driving the short stretch as a team. Please keep in mind that this is an open course. There are no closed roads. There will be no police presence at intersections.  Runners must follow and obey traffic and pedestrian laws. \nSafety must come first! This will be an unforgettable journey for a GREAT cause!

DESCRIPTION:Maryland’s 9/11 Rolling Memorial was unveiled and dedicated on Sunday September 11th 2016. It is Maryland’s first and only 9/11 rolling memorial and was created in remembrance and honor of the 69 Marylanders killed on Tuesday September 11th 2001 and the 158 others who have made the supreme sacrifice in the war on terror since that horrific day. The memorial will not only be used for our 9/11 events but also showcased in local and state parades and taken to schools\, scout meetings\, and community events to be used as a teaching tool. We will share information on the funds\, foundations and events that have been created in their memory. These families have lost one life but are helping and supporting 100’s if not 1000’s of other lives because of their loss.

SUMMARY:9/11 Memorial at Mount Mitchill (Highlands\, NJ)
DESCRIPTION:Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook has always been a special place to view the New York skyline and the Sandy Hook Bay. The tall ships\, fireworks over the East River\, and sailboat races are great to watch from this “highest point on the Atlantic Coast.” In September 2001 the park took on a new meaning for many in Monmouth County. \nThere were 147 people from Monmouth County who perished in the terrorists attacks of September 11th\, 2001. For days and weeks afterward\, people visited Mount Mitchill to reflect and remember. \nSet against views of New York\, the memorial reminds us of the indelible changes to the famous skyline as it was once known and honors both the lives lost and the fearless display of heroism by rescue teams and citizens who responded to the tragedy.

DESCRIPTION:Alabama Athletics\, in coordination with the University of Alabama Police Department\, will host the Tuscaloosa 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in Coleman Coliseum on Thursday\, Sept. 11. For the second consecutive year\, the event will be made available for the public to register and participate. \nThe morning’s events begin with a pre-climb ceremony at 7:45 a.m. CT\, followed by a closed climb at 8:15 a.m. reserved for first responders. The public climb will begin at 10:30 a.m. Those wishing to participate should register HERE. The event is free of charge. \nThe Memorial Stair Climb honors the FDNY\, NYPD\, Port Authority Police (PAPD) and EMS who selflessly gave their lives in the aid of others on Sept. 11\, 2001. The climb consists of 2\,200 steps up and 2\,200 steps down\, equivalent to the 110 floors of the World Trade Center. The University of Alabama Police Department organized its first 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in 2018.

DESCRIPTION:Each year\, we solemnly honor the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11\, 2001. \nJoin us and participate in this year’s 9/11 Challenge\, taking place on Friday\, September 11\, at Doughboy Stadium from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can also choose to complete the challenge independently on Saturday\, September 12\, or Sunday\, September 13. \nIn remembrance of the fallen firefighters\, we present our annual Stair Climb and a 9-exercise challenge\, marking the 25th anniversary of one of the most somber days in our nation’s history.
